Why Does Your Tankless Gas Water Heater Not Working?
(One of the troubleshooting of your tankless gas water heater not working, applies to flue-type unit with water-gas valve device.)
Quick No-Ignition Fixes
Basic Checks
✅ Power:
- Make sure you have new batteries installed in the correct position. Negative should be down closest to you and Positive towards the back.
- Make sure the On/Off switch(if applicable) is turned on, do this by having the Red dot pushed in.
✅ Gas/Water Valves and channels:
- Confirm gas valve **fully open**.
- Check water inlet valve isn’t restricted.
- Check that water is flowing through correctly.
- There may be debris within the water inlet. Remove connections to the inlet and inspect. Remove any debris that may be blocking the tankless gas water heater and retry. .
- The gas passage may need to be purged of air. Turn gas to maximum and burners to High on the unit and turn water on/off a few times.
Water Pressure Test
➤ Minimum 0.025MPa required:
- Check for sufficient water pressure. The tankless gas water heater must have a minimum of 0.025MPa of sustained pressure to activate the gas burner.

Check the Gas Passage.
- Disconnect all gas attachments from your tankless gas water heater and gas valve.
- Re-connect your gas line to the tankless gas water heater including all tape and washers (do not turn the gas on)
- Turn your water supply on.
Once your tankless gas water heater starts to click, turn your gas valve on slowly and watch for ignition through the window.
